Catrhy Richardson – Responsbaset arbejde med familier

1 dags Workshop

In this one-day workshop with Narrative Perspektiver Cathy will present the RBP Framework and the Medicine Wheel of Responses in relation to working with families.  Together with Bushra Hanif, Cathy will set the groundwork, demonstrate an interview and facilitate group practice related to RBP related to systemic family work.  Cathy and Bushra will discuss concepts such as intergenerational transmission theories in terms of cultural and safety-based knowledges as well as looking at women and children’s responses to violence.  They will demonstrate dignity-based practice and introduce the Islands of Safety model, with opportunities for practice.

Cathy says: As humans, we tend to live in families, and communities. Families are comprised of a kind
of ecosystem, where everyone and everything is inter-related. Sometimes, the well-being
of one relates to the health of the entire ecosystem, so working with families in mind is
more likely to bring the lasting change that may benefit everyone. I believe in keeping
people, and practice, in context.

That being said, when violence occurs, it may be beneficial to remove part of the family,
often the women and children, from the person doing the harm. Removing the perpetrator
and trying to create safety in the home, may be the best approach for those already made
vulnerable. For children especially, a family home should be associated with safety and
warmth, a place where love can be found and calm through the daily routine. This is where
response-based practice may be helpful. We pay attention to children’s needs, their views
and the way they too resist the violence. Children often try to protect their parents, and
this is understandable when there is danger or harm.
